CONGRATULATIONS TO DR NABEELA NATHOO – 2022 Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis Foundation Prize Winner

For the 4th year in a row, the Foundation is proud to support a young researcher with its Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis Prize, via the Canadian Neurological Sciences Federation (CNSF) and the Canadian Neurological Society (CNS).

Nabeela Nathoo is a fifth year Adult Neurology resident at the University of Alberta. She completed her MD and PhD (Neuroscience) at the University of Calgary. Her research areas of interest are in multiple sclerosis and anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis. During her residency within the realm of anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, she has published a case report on oophorectomy in a patient with NMDA receptor encephalitis with negative pelvic imaging; a review article on anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis with a focus on diagnosing and managing the condition in the acute care setting; and a retrospective single center cohort study on EEG findings in anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis with a focus on extreme delta brush and the implications of this finding in patients’ clinical outcomes. She will be pursuing a fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester) upon completion of residency where she will also have some exposure to anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis in her training.

Dr. Nathoo looks forward to presenting her findings at the upcoming CNSF Congress in Montreal, Quebec, 26 to 29 June 2022  https://www.cnsf.org/congress/registration/
