Happy World Encephalitis Day 2021!/ Bonne journée mondiale de l’encéphalite 2021!

We are pleased to celebrate this day which was spearheaded by the Encephalitis Society in the UK, in 2014, as a way to raise awareness about a disease which does not get the attention it deserves – a catastrophic, life altering illness, which is sometimes lethal.

For the 2^nd time, we were pleased to participate in the new World Encephalitis Day (WED) Conference that was started last year (2020) and was a way to save and give a new lease on life to the FACES conference that had been started by encephalitis survivor and advocate extra-ordinaire, Wendy Station, who sadly passed away in October 2020. It is the only conference for survivors and caregivers and all that have been affected by the illness, bringing community members together and offering presentations by pre-eminent physicians with specialized knowledge and an interest in encephalitis.

To celebrate, we are pleased to share the Wendy Station tribute video that was shown for the first time at the virtual WED Conference 2021, this past Saturday, 20 February 2021.  You can watch the video which is for the general public here: https://youtu.be/GnTe–RRafM.

Other recordings of the presentations will be made available to those who had registered for the conference, in the next 2 weeks.

To honour Wendy Station, WEDA, the alliance of 5 charities that organized the conference, created the Wendy Station Master Networker award, plus an additional 2 awards – one for Visionary Researcher and one for Inspirational Leader, to be awarded to 3 individuals that have made a significant contribution to the encephalitis community. We are delighted to share with you the names of those winners.

Nous sommes fiers de célébrer cette journée qui fut inaugurée par la société d’encéphalite au Royaume-Uni, en 2014, comme façon d’augmenter la sensibilisation à propos d’une maladie qui ne reçoit pas l’attention qu’elle mérite – une maladie catastrophique qui change une vie et est parfois mortelle.

Pour la deuxième fois, nous sommes fiers de participer à la nouvelle conférence de la journée mondiale de l’encéphalite (World EncephalitisDay; WED) qui a débuté l’an dernier (2020), et qui était une façon de sauver et faire revivre la conférence FACES qui avait été lancée par une survivante de l’encéphalite et militante extraordinaire, Wendy Station, malheureusement décédée en octobre 2020.  C’est la seule conférence pour les survivants et aidants ainsi que tous ceux affectés par la maladie, rassemblant les membres de la communauté et offrant des présentations par des médecins prééminents ayant des connaissances spéciales et un intérêt pour l’encéphalite.
