In very many cases of anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, a Teratoma tumour will be identified as being the trigger. However, a recent study (2013) has demonstrated that approximately 25% of cases that are diagnosed with Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) encephalitis will relapse and test positive for anti-NMDA. This is important information that many doctors may still not be aware of. Jessica’s story would seem to fall in this category.
We invite you to read the findings of the retrospective study at the following link: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3961499/
We wish Jessica continued healing and recovery.
