The Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis Foundation’s President to attend the premiere screening of “Brain on Fire” at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival, September 16, 2016
Ottawa, September 10, 2016, The movie “Brain on Fire”, based on the award-winning book Brain on Fire, My Month of Madness (by Susannah Cahalan; ©Simon and Shuster, 2012), will premiere September 16, 2016 at the Toronto International Film Festival at 1800h. Ms. Nesrin Shaheen, president of The Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis Foundation, Inc.(Canada); (CRA #84332 8337RR0001), will attend the premiere in the company of a patient who has fully recovered from the disease. Anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis is a neurological disease that has affected hundreds of Canadians since its description in 2007. Although it is frequently misdiagnosed as a mental illness, with appropriate treatment and support many patients experience a good outcome.
Ms. Shaheen has tirelessly advocated for increased awareness of Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis since her daughter was diagnosed with the disease at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in 2008. She is a cofounder of the Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis Foundation (Inc, Canada)—the only Foundation in the world dedicated to promoting awareness, providing support, and raising funds for research committed to understanding Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis.
